Switzerland Women Play a draw against France WomenPosted: August 2, 2017
Switzerland has played a 1-1 draw against the 10-player France in the Women’s European Championship on 26th of July.
In the early minutes of the match, Eve Perisset received a red card leaving her team with a numerical disadvantage for nearly 75 minutes. Despite that, the French team managed to defend pretty well thwarting most of their opponents’ efforts. However, they were highly confused after Perisset’s dismissal, as two minutes afterwards, Ana Maria Crnogorcevic fired the opener to put Switzerland ahead.
France’s Camille Abiliy’s late goal saved her team from a loss and an outrageous elimination.
They are the third ranked team in the Fifa rankings and it would be shocking indeed if they would be kicked out of their group. However, their rivals were also not an easy bait, but they can remain at peace regarding this case as they reached the quarter-final.
In the early minutes, Paris St-Germain’s Perisset challenged Chelsea’s Ramona Bachmann receiving a red card. In the late minutes it seemed unlikely that France would produce such a spectacular move, but after their keeper, Gaelle Thalmann, made some great saves, she miscalculated Abily’s free-kick, that landed past her.
Austria is the Group winner after beating Iceland by a 3-0 score. They debuted in this tournament and are currently ranked the 24th in the world – the lowest in the Group.
If England will win against Portugal in the next match, they will remain at the top and might go against France in the quarter final, who weren’t defeated by them since 1974.
