Manchester United play a draw against AnderlechtPosted: April 14, 2017
The first-leg match of the Champions’ League quarter-finals where Manchester United played against Anderlecht ended with a 1-1 draw on 13th of April.
Manchester United was good in the first half, opening the score from Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shot. They were in their best shape at that time. However, they didn’t manage to score further with Marcus Rashford’s failed attempt before the break.
The second half was a tough and United defended well. However, the 21-year-old Leander Dendoncker equalized the score 4 minutes before the end, letting no room for United to score any further.
Anderlecht scored with Dendoncker’s only shot on target, while United mustered 7 during the whole game. The host’s precision thwarted United’s plans once again suffering similar outcome at their away matches at Rostov, Feyenoord and Fenerbahce.
United was pressing them thoroughly, which ensured their dominance in possession managing to muster more shots against their opponents, but only one attempt neutralized their success in this round.
The home side made their job well, but they will have to review their tactic in the future games, otherwise similar mistakes could mean their downfall against more dangerous teams.
The next match for Manchester United will be on 16th of April against Chelsea, the Premier League leaders, and after, they will play home in their second-leg encounter. Anderlecht will play against KV Oostende on 16th of April in the battle of the Belgian Pro League.
