Manchester City defeat Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions LeaguePosted: October 4, 2017
As Shakhtar Donetsk lost their second Champions League match, Manchester City received their second win in this competition by defeating the Ukranian side at home by a 2-0 score on 26th of September.
Kevin de Bruyne added the first goal from David Silva’s pass shortly after the break. Raheem Sterling advanced in the 90th minute to double the score ensuring a secure victory for City.
Though City won decently this one, it could be more if they weren’t pushed off by the opponents’ keeper. Sergio Aguero had a critical miss when he had his penalty and another couple efforts saved by the visitors’ keeper, Andriy Pyatov.
City’s first half became very frustrating, as their attempts couldn’t drill through. After finishing so brilliantly their previous games, few could tolerate such a result. However, Shakhtar players weren’t on the weak side themselves, managing to threaten at times and test the home keeper.
Ederson became a successful summer signing for City, as he has shown an impressive performance. The keeper problem appeared since Claudio Bravo started to concede about 2/3 of shots on target. Where Bravo couldn’t do much, Ederson seems to hold on without troubles.
Feyenoord, whom City have previously thrashed by a 0-4 score, have lost again to Napoli by a 3-1 score. Shakhtar became one of the most dangerous City’s opponents from the previous games. As their encounter against Napoli might bear some surprises, they still have time to prepare and also for the following match against their Premier League fellows, Chelsea on 30th of September.
