Everton play a draw against Apollon Limassol in the Europa LeaguePosted: October 6, 2017
As Everton was close to winning this game, their confidence suffered after a late opponents’ equaliser, who brought it up to 2-2, minimising hosts’ chance for a successful finish in the Group E of the Europa League on 28th of September.
The opener was fired by Apollon’s Adrian Sardinero Corpa from Anton Maglica’s cross in the 12th minute. Nine minutes afterwards, Wayne Rooney approached past opponent’s defence scoring from inside the box.
There was an intense defence-attack play in the first half from both teams, with some brilliant saves from both keepers.
In the second half, it got more interesting as Nikola Vlasic propelled the Toffees ahead after doubling the score. It could be the winning goal, however, the odds weren’t on their side as Hector Yuste equalised the score in the 88th minute, leaving Everton with only one gained point from two played games in the championship.
In the injury time, there was still an effort from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but he couldn’t make the difference as it was saved by the opponents’ keeper, Bruno Vale.
It was a disappointing result for the Toffees and one point doesn’t make it much better. They still remain at the bottom of the group. Their mission remains to be a difficult one, as Atalanta have previously drawn a 1-1 match against Lyon.
