Bayer Leverkusen Play a Draw against Atletico Madrid

On Tuesday, March 15th, Atletico Madrid assured their progression into the last eight of the Champions League after a 0-0 draw match against Bayer Leverkusen. The German visitors didn’t advance into the stage of last 8 since 2002.
The Spanish side won with a 4-2 score in their previous match. They managed to prevent German attacks and have manifested superior performance skill getting a deserved win.

In this match, the Germans mustered several efforts against the home keeper, but all were in vain. Jan Oblak made brilliant saves from Kevin Volland’s and Julian Brandt’s dangerous shots.
Atletico Madrid has already reached four successive times the Champions’ League quarter-finals since 2013-14. Diego Simeone has been bringing them to this stage after he became their manager in 2011.

Fernando Torres rested on the bench this time, due to his injury from 2nd March when he lost his consciousness during the game against Deportivo La Coruna. He spent 24 hours in the hospital afterwards and Simeone decided to extend his rest in this match.

Tayfun Korkut has recently replaced Roger Schmidt as Bayer’s boss. He previously managed Kaiserslautern and Hannover having seen his first 1-1 game on 10 of March against Werder Bremen.
Bayer couldn’t overturn the victory to their side. However, Champions League had only 2 cases when a team has reversed a home first-leg defeat to their convenience in the second round. Bayer played without six of their top players in this game, but still, they gave it all keeping a clean sheet against the Spanish side.
